CTOnews.com, December 11 (Xinhua)-- Intel previously confirmed that its Intel4 process is ready for production, which means that the next generation of Meteor Lake will arrive sometime in 2023.
The latest news shows that there will be two types of Meteor Lake designed with tGPU "Tiled-GPU" small chip combination, mainly for the next generation mobile product line to be launched in 2023.
Whistleblower @ Kepler_L2 said that there are currently two versions of Meteor Lake's tGPU, one is GT2 and the other is the higher-end GT3, while GT1, which was rumored to be used on desktop platforms, has been cut.
It is said that GT2 will be applied to the basic series of products, with a total of 64 EU (or 512 ALU), while the higher-end GT3 will use 128 EU, a total of 1024 ALU.
To put it simply, the EU number of GT3 is the same as that of Arc A380 (with 8 Xe cores), while GT2 is weaker than the entry-level desktop card Arc A310, which is equivalent to the gap between 4 cores and 6 Xe cores.
But in any case, even if the next-generation processor set display can use the same kernel design as the desktop graphics card, it will not be able to perform the same performance because of the limited power consumption, so this reference value is limited, but compared with the previous generation kernel display, there will certainly be a good performance improvement. It is expected that the integrated RDNA 3 core of the AMD Ryzen 7000 mobile platform will be hard to show, which is worth looking forward to.
Intel has previously said it expects to complete streaming / trial production of the Meteor Lake in the fourth quarter. Meteor Lake CPU will adopt a new hybrid core architecture, which is composed of three small chips: IO Tile, SoC Tile and Compute Tile, combined with Intel 4 + TSMC N5+N6 process, with the highest 6P+16E configuration.
CTOnews.com learned that Intel 4 is the first generation of Intel EUV process, and the subsequent Intel 3 is also based on EUV lithography.
According to Intel, the transistor density of the Intel 4 HP high performance library can reach 160 million / mm2, which is twice that of the current Intel 7 process, higher than the 130 million / mm2 of TSMC's 5nm process, and close to TSMC's 208 million transistor / mm2 of 3nm.
Compared with the Intel 7 process, the frequency of the "4nm EUV" process is increased by 21.5% and the power consumption is reduced by 40% at the same power consumption, which will mark a major leap in transistor performance and density per watt. Intel expects Meteor Lake CPU sales to grow in 2023.
As a result, Intel hopes to regain its lead in 2025.
