CTOnews.com learned that Apple acquired the rights to Liberation more than two years ago. The plan starred will Smith (who was very popular at the time) and the film was directed by Antoine Antoine Fuqua. Apple reportedly paid about $120 million (835 million yuan) to secure the deal.

The film began filming in 2021 and is scheduled for release in the summer of 2022. However, the release of the film was delayed due to the slapping incident.

CTOnews.com learned that the film is based on a true story about the protagonist Peter escaping from slave owners, enduring the chase of cold-blooded hunters and the dangerous swamps of Louisiana all the way north. After fleeing to the Union Army, Peter revealed the scars behind him when he was whipped by the overseer in the plantation.

The scene was photographed as the famous photo "the scourged back", published in "Independent" in May 1863 and "Harper's Weekly" on July 4 of that year. The photo became one of the evidence of the brutality of slavery in the United States.
