CTOnews.com news on December 9, Hurun Research Institute today released the "Top 2022 Hurun Global 500th", listing the world's top 500 non-state-owned enterprises, ranking them by market capitalization or valuation.

The threshold for this year's Hurun Global Top 500s has dropped 23% from last year to $28 billion, or 203 billion yuan. The total value of the companies on the list fell 19%, or $11.1 trillion, to $47 trillion, or 340 trillion yuan, from last year. The value of 160 companies increased over last year, of which 68 were new to the list. The value of 340 enterprises has declined or remained the same compared with last year. Sixty-eight enterprises failed the list.

Among them, Apple topped the Hurun World Top 500 list with a value of 17 trillion yuan, down 3 percent from last year when the list was released. Microsoft ranked second, with a value of 13 trillion yuan, down 15%. Google's parent company Alphabet overtook Amazon in third place. The total value of the "world's four giants" Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon is down 17% from last year, but still accounts for 14% of the total value of Hurun Global 500 companies.

55% of the companies on the list are directly oriented to consumers, and 45% are B2B enterprises. 54% sell physical products and 46% sell software or services. In terms of value, the top five industries accounted for half of the list, followed by financial services, followed by health care, consumer goods, energy, software and services. On average, each company is worth 680 billion yuan, sales of 310 billion yuan, 87000 employees, the company is 65 years old.

The United States leads the world, increasing 17 companies to 260, accounting for 52% of the total and 65% of the total value. China had 35 companies on the list, a drop of 12, with TSMC ranking first in China, falling seven places to 17th in the world, followed by 28 in Japan, down 2, and 21 in the UK, down 3. India and Canada rose to fifth place, with 20 companies each on the list, an increase of eight and three respectively, surpassing France and Germany. France and Germany fell by 2 and 4 respectively to 17 and 16 respectively.

The biggest drop in value was Meta Platforms, which fell by 4.5 trillion yuan and Amazon by 4.3 trillion yuan. Tencent was the third, down 3.1 trillion yuan. Alibaba fourth, a drop of 3 trillion yuan. In terms of percentage, Canadian ecommerce platform Shopify fell the most, with a decline of 79 per cent, followed by a 72 per cent drop in PayPal.

Hurun said, "Hoogewerf 500 companies are the backbone of the world economy. The combined sales of these 500 enterprises exceed 150 trillion yuan, surpassing the GDP of China and India, with 43 million employees, equivalent to the working population of Germany."
