CTOnews.com, Dec. 8 (Reuters)-the Pentagon awarded $9 billion (62.82 billion yuan) worth of cloud computing contracts to Alphabet's Google, Amazon AWS, Microsoft and Oracle on Wednesday.

These contracts, which will last until 2028, provide the U.S. Department of Defense with enterprise-wide, globally available cloud services across all security areas and classification levels.

CTOnews.com learned that earlier this year, the Pentagon postponed the award of a joint operations cloud capability (Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability, or JWCC) contract.

JWCC is the "successor" to the joint enterprise defense infrastructure (JEDI) cloud computing contract. The latter is the equivalent of an IT modernization project that aims to create a common business cloud platform for the U.S. Department of Defense.
