CTOnews.com, December 8 (Xinhua)-- Apple released the iOS 16.2 RC version to developers and test users on Wednesday, and the official version is expected to be released sometime this month. The update adds new features such as Apple's boundless app, the new HomeKit architecture and Apple Music Sing. In addition, iOS 16.2 provides support for 5G networks for iPhone users in India.

Until now, iPhone users in India have not been able to connect to the country's 5G network because iOS does not support it. The Indian government pushed Apple to launch 5G support in India, and the company confirmed in November that it would do so through software updates. Now, with the launch of the iOS 16.2 RC, Apple has finally enabled 5G for the iPhone in India.

Although the official release note for iOS 16.2 does not mention 5G support in India, iPhone users who have installed the update have been able to confirm the change. After installing the update, users can enable 5G in the iPhone Settings application.

Of course, connecting 5G networks in India requires compatible iPhone and operators. IPhone SE 3, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 users will be able to connect to 5G networks in India, and customers of Airtel or Jio operators will support 5G as long as they order packages that support 5G networks.

CTOnews.com learned that India is a growing market for Apple. The company mentioned strong growth in the country in its quarterly earnings report last week, and an Apple dealer partner in India recently reported strong profit growth due to high demand for orders for iPhone and MacBook.

Redington Ltd., India's largest distributor of Apple and IT products, reported on Thursday that profits jumped 26% in September due to strong domestic demand for mobile phones, laptops and software. Consolidated profit for the three months ended Sept. 30 climbed to 3.87 billion Indian rupees (329 million yuan) from 3.07 billion rupees a year earlier, the company said in a trading filing. According to the document, the iPhone dealer's quarterly revenue rose to 190.51 billion Indian rupees (about 16.174 billion yuan) from 152.87 billion rupees a year ago. Apple is its largest single supplier, accounting for 27% of revenue.
