CTOnews.com, December 8, in addition to the end-to-end encryption of a number of iCloud cloud services, Apple today also announced two security features, iMessage Contact Key Verification and Security Keys for Apple ID, to improve the security of cloud user data. These two features will be launched on mobile devices such as the iPhone in 2023.

IMessage Contact Key Verification

CTOnews.com has learned that the feature is mainly aimed at users facing "special digital threats" such as journalists, human rights activists and officials, and will have more stringent censorship on the sending of messages. After this feature is enabled, only contacts authenticated by the host are allowed to send and receive information. Users will be alerted if state-backed attackers or other malicious actors successfully hack into the cloud server and their own devices to eavesdrop on conversations.

Once the iMessage Contact Key Verification feature is enabled, users can ask to match Contact Verification Code on FaceTime or other secure calls to further verify that they are only communicating with the people they want.

Security Keys for Apple ID

This feature allows users to choose to use third-party physical security keys to further protect their accounts. For users who enable this feature, the security key strengthens Apple's two-factor authentication by requiring the hardware security key as one of the two factors rather than the authentication code.

With iMessage contact key authentication, security keys and iCloud advanced data protection, users will have three powerful new tools to further protect their most sensitive data and communications."
