CTOnews.com, December 7 (Xinhua)-- Volkswagen is planning to expand its South Korean workforce, and its subsidiary PowerCo has previously used agents or existing employees to inject new blood, according to The Elec. Now the company will welcome more newcomers.

PowerCo, which oversees the development and production of batteries, was recently established.

In July, Volkswagen said it planned to spend 20 billion euros to build six plants in Europe, each with an annual output of 40GWh.

In addition to batteries, PowerCo will also produce cathodes, anodes and recycle waste batteries.

CTOnews.com has learned that PowerCo will oversee 80 per cent of the production of standard square cells, a battery pack designed by Volkswagen, which it says will save 50 per cent on production costs.

Soonho Ahn, PowerCo CTO, will lead the working session. Soonho Ahn joined LG Chemistry in 1996 and served as Senior Vice President and head of the next-generation Battery Lab at Samsung SDI from 2015 to 2018. He joined Apple at the end of 2018 and is responsible for the global development of batteries.
