Texas Instruments announced today that LFAB, a new 12-inch fab located in Lehigh, Utah, has begun manufacturing analog and embedded products, after Texas Instruments acquired the plant about a year ago.

LFAB is TI's second 12-inch fab to begin semiconductor production in 2022, providing customers with the manufacturing capabilities they will need for decades to come. RFAB2, located in Richardson, Texas, USA, began preliminary production in September.

Texas Instruments Lihai LFAB is located in the heart of Utah's Silicon Slopes community, less than an hour's drive from Salt Lake City, and is Utah's only 12-inch semiconductor fab.

Li Hai LFAB will add 12 inches of manufacturing capacity to the fab, which has more than approximately 25548 square meters of clean rooms and highly advanced facilities including approximately 11265 meters of automated overhead transport systems to rapidly transport wafers throughout the fab. TI's total investment in Lihai fab will reach about $3 billion (about 20.94 billion yuan) to $4 billion (about 27.92 billion yuan).

IT Home understands that Li Hai LFAB has the ability to support 65nm and 45nm technologies, can go beyond these nodes as needed, and has excellent process technology for producing complex devices such as embedded processing chips. When fully operational, LFAB will manufacture tens of millions of chips a day, which will be used in everything from renewable energy to electric cars to electronics for space telescopes.

Li Hai LFAB also supports a long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable manufacturing by reducing waste, water and energy consumption. TI's water conservation strategy includes investing in projects to conserve, recycle and reuse water while limiting, reducing and monitoring chemicals that may affect water quality.
