Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Coje_He for lead delivery! CTOnews.com Amazon has launched an ad verification program in which Amazon will pay participating users $2 a month if they agree to share their mobile traffic data with the company.
Amazon's ad verification program, which is currently invitation-only, aims to track what ads participants see, including where they see ads and how long they watch ads throughout the day, both Amazon's own ads and third-party ads on the platform.
According to Amazon, through this program, Amazon hopes to provide customers with a more personalized advertising experience. "Your participation will help brands deliver better products and make Amazon's advertising more targeted," Amazon wrote in its shopper group FAQ.
An Amazon spokesperson told reporters that the $2 reward applies only to Amazon users who are invited to participate in the program, although users who are not invited can be added to the waiting list and may join later. According to the FAQ, participants can withdraw from the program at any time.
The ad verification program is part of Amazon Shopper Panel, an invitation-only program where certain Amazon users earn $10 a month if they upload 10 qualifying receipts for purchases made outside Amazon. In addition, group members can earn additional monthly rewards by completing short surveys.
The ad verification program, currently available only in the U.S. and the U.K., was launched after privacy advocates raised concerns about how Amazon handles sensitive user data.
Earlier this month, Wired reported that experts were anxious about how Amazon handled the data it obtained through healthcare startup OneMedical. CNBC also reported that there has long been concern about how the company uses data from smart home devices such as Alexa and Ring.
CTOnews.com learned that trading user data for financial rewards is nothing new. TechCrunch reported that in 2016, Facebook launched a program where users aged 13 to 25 could receive $20 a month gift cards if they installed Facebook Research, an app that tracks users 'online activities for market research. In addition, Google launched Screenwise in 2012, where volunteer users receive $5 Amazon gift cards for downloading Google Chrome extensions and tracking their Internet activities, and an additional gift card every three months for a year. Another part of Screenwise's plan is to give users $100 if they agree to install Google-provided routers in their homes to track their Web behavior, and $20 a month after signing up.
However, due to privacy issues, Facebook and Google's plans were shut down in 2019.
