Beijing, Dec. 7 (Xinhua)-- Blue Origin, a space company owned by Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos), and US military companies Boeing and Lockheed Martin announced on Tuesday that they will jointly promote a lunar lander to NASA. Bezos had previously lost to Elon Elon Musk in his bid for the lunar lander contract.

Musk and Bezos are space rivals. The proposal to jointly develop the lunar lander, led by Blue Origin, is the companies' second attempt to win a coveted lunar lander contract. Currently, NASA is looking for more options for landing on the moon under the multibillion-dollar Artemis project. NASA set a deadline for the proposal on Tuesday, and the agency is expected to announce the winning bidder in June 2023.

Last year, NASA chose SpaceX, owned by Musk, to carry out the first Artemis missions to the moon over the next 10 years, and rejected the bid proposed by Blue Origin's team mainly because of financial constraints. This made Blue Origin unhappy and sued NASA, questioning that the agency only awarded the contract to SpaceX. Later, NASA invited another tender to seek a second lunar lander as a backup of the SpaceX lunar lander.

In a brief statement posted on its website on Tuesday, Blue Origin revealed that its team had submitted a bid for the second lunar lander project to NASA, saying that "in cooperation with NASA, the team will achieve a sustained presence on the moon." The Blue Origin team also includes Draper, a spacecraft software company, Astrobotic, a space robotics company, and Honeybee Robotics, a maker of military and civilian robotic systems that has been acquired by Blue Origin.
