Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, December 6 (Xinhua)-- Apple announced today that it has launched a self-service maintenance program in Europe, extending it outside the United States for the first time.

Customers in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK can now buy Apple's original parts and consult the maintenance manual through the Apple self-service store. Apple says customers who want self-service repairs will be able to perform many of the most common repairs for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series as well as Mac notebooks with Apple Silicon.

CTOnews.com was informed that in order to perform repairs, customers first need to check their product's maintenance manual and specific repairs on the Apple support website. After that, you can order the required parts and tools from the self-service shop and begin repairs. Apple said all tools and parts provided by the store had been "extensively tested to ensure the highest quality, safety and reliability."

While customers must order parts for repairs, Apple will also provide a $49 toolkit, including all the basic tools needed to carry out repairs for customers. Customers can use the rental kit for a week and send it free of charge before they need to send it back to Apple. This leasing scheme provides flexibility for customers who do not want to fully own and purchase tools and perform only one maintenance.

The plan is part of Apple's efforts to "further expand the scope of maintenance", but Apple also cautioned that the "vast majority" of customers should still go to professional repair agencies, such as Apple Store retail stores, to ensure that their devices are safely and reliably repaired. In the past three years, Apple has expanded its maintenance network to include more than 3000 independent maintenance vendors and more than 5000 authorized service providers worldwide.
