Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, December 6 (Xinhua)-- with Qualcomm and MediaTek's flagship chips launching hardware ray tracing, the industry's first mobile device ray tracing benchmark is coming.

"Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 release: CPU performance has been improved by 35%, and Guangchuan and Wi-Fi 7 are supported."

"MediaTek Tianji 9200 flagship chip release: the launch of TSMC's second generation 4nm Magi GPU increases by 32%, supports hardware light pursuit, and goes on sale at the end of the month."

Hardware benchmark platform Basemark has announced the launch of a new product called "GPUScore:In Vitro", which aims to provide users and reviewers with a reference tool to judge the performance of new and next-generation mobile devices and light-tracking mobile games.

In Vitro will start with three GPUScore tests, including Relic of Life, The Expedition, and Sacred Path.

Basemark said that In Vitro was developed to promote standardized, guaranteed raytraced game engine workloads across devices. This test uses RayTracing techniques to simulate real-life graphic details, including lighting, reflection, and shadows using Basemark's custom Rocksolid engine.

However, despite Basemark's best efforts to ensure fairness, its ray-tracing performance may perform better on some architectures. Like PC ray tracing, some game engines perform better on AMD or Nvidia architectures, so you can't judge performance on a single test.

CTOnews.com learned that to run In Vitro, users must have a device with Android 12 or later, support Vulkan 1.1 + and SPIR-V, RayTracing, ETC compression, and memory of 4GB or above (3GB shown in the promotional map), including four operating modes.

Basemark said that the performance of mobile devices in 2022 will not be very good. According to software developers, current devices with ray tracing capabilities can reach around FHD 15fps.
