CTOnews.com, December 6 (Xinhua)-- Eufy, a brand owned by Anker, has exposed a security problem that thumbnails of surveillance videos will still be uploaded to the cloud even if users completely disable cloud services. Citing foreign technology media AppleInsider, Eufy's solution after acknowledging the existence of the problem is not to fix it, but to send notifications to users.

A security researcher found in November that Eufy security cameras send users' images and information to the cloud without their permission, even if they don't pay for cloud subscriptions.

Eufy then said that it had added a statement to the App Store list and the Eufy Security application, indicating that notification options had been adjusted for users to display notifications on cloud services.

CTOnews.com learned that Eufy security applications have several different notification options. For example, the user can choose to have the notification display only text or display text and camera thumbnails. If the user selects the thumbnail option, Eufy will upload the image to the cloud. As ZDnet points out, the problem is not that Eufy uploads images to the cloud, but that it does not inform users that it is doing so.

"banning cloud storage is also ineffective. Anker's Eufy surveillance camera is directed to the cloud to send data."
