According to the demo video he gave, the gearshift on the prototype (based on the Lexus UX300e) is so realistic that the driver even faces the possibility of the car stalling or slipping backwards at the start of the halfway slope.

"this new project was proposed by some Lexus engineers who summed up the advantages of traditional petrol vehicles and the disadvantages of electric cars," Watanabe said, and eventually found that "they particularly like manual gearboxes."

Watanabe stressed that the prototype is "very interesting" and that the project is under serious development and may be used in future pure electric vehicles.
