At the recent IEDM 2022 (2022 IEEE International Electronic Devices Conference), Intel released a number of breakthrough research results and gave the latest roadmap, emphasizing that the company is maintaining a "fast pace" and that they not only need to stay on track, but also speed up delivery time.

According to Intel terminology, the entry point of the post-nano era is "Amy", that is, 1/10 nm. They will name the process nodes less than 2 nm 20A and 18A, and will launch / the first batch of High NA EUV devices using ASML (possibly 18A).

To put it simply, the Intel 20A process plans to enter the risk trial phase in the first half of 2024, while the 18A process will be ready in the second half of 2024.

In addition, Intel also confirmed that its upcoming Intel4 process is ready for production.

It is worth noting that the company mentioned that the process of "preparing for production" of the node corresponds to the timeline in which they expect the process to be in a risky production state. This means that Intel 4 is now in a state of risky trial production.

In other words, this may mean that the next generation of Meteor Lake will not be delayed until 2024, as some anecdotes suggest, but will arrive sometime in 2023.

▲ Tuyuan Intel, via:wccftech, also revealed that the 18A process plans to enter a risky trial production phase in February 2024.

In addition, Intel also confirmed that its 20A process will introduce both RibbonFET and PowerVias technology.

When asked about the transition to RibbonFET and PowerVias technologies in 20A, and considering the potential risks of the company's mistakes in 10nm processes, Ann Kelleher said:

"this doesn't need to be done right away, but we see a significant advantage of moving to PowerVia to enable RibbonFET technology. This has been very successful and enabled us to speed up our development efforts."
