By 2025, focusing on the southwest and northeast regions of China, we will vigorously promote the construction of a new generation of weather radars and X-band weather radars, and achieve national network observation of multi-industry and multi-band radars. the national weather radar monitoring coverage is about 22% higher than that in 2020, effectively covering populated areas, and the ability of short-term and imminent monitoring and early warning of severe weather such as strong convection is significantly enhanced. By 2035, a national weather radar observation network with scientific layout, unified standards and complete functions will be established. The overall monitoring capability and technical performance indicators will reach the international advanced level, and some indicators will reach the international leading level.

CTOnews.com learned that the Programme also identified 17 priority tasks in five areas.

One is to further scientifically design the layout of the weather radar observation network. Optimize the overall layout of national S-band and C-band weather radar, improve the regional layout of X-band and C-band weather radar, and scientifically design the overall layout and priority construction sequence of the national weather radar observation network.

The second is to improve the technical standards of the new generation of weather radar. Complete the technical standardization of S-band dual-polarization new-generation weather radar, improve the performance of C-band dual-polarization weather radar, improve the technical standards of X-band dual-polarization weather radar, and further standardize the technical requirements of weather radar infrastructure construction.

The third is to vigorously develop the national weather radar observation network. We will promote the construction of a new generation of weather radar stations, speed up the construction of blind areas in the weather radar observation network, upgrade existing S-band weather radars, upgrade C-band weather radars in S-band areas, and upgrade existing C-band weather radars in C-band areas. expand the weather radar network through cooperation between departments and industries.
