December 5 news, according to foreign media reports, with the increase in demand for electric vehicle batteries, a number of battery manufacturers are investing in building factories, and in addition to building new factories, there are also manufacturers to expand existing factories to increase production capacity and meet demand.

The latest foreign media reports show that SK On, an electric vehicle battery manufacturer under the SK Group, has begun to evaluate plans to expand South Korea's Ruishan plant.

According to foreign media reports, SK On plans to add four production lines to the Ruishan plant to increase the annual production capacity of batteries by 10GWh to 15GWh, which is three times the original capacity. If the expansion plan is approved, the plant will start construction in the second half of next year and is scheduled to be completed in 2025. It is currently evaluating the supply of equipment and parts needed by the plant.

Foreign media also mentioned in the report that SK On is considering the expansion of the Ruishan plant in order to better meet Hyundai's battery demand, and they have planned to build a new electric vehicle factory in South Korea.

SK On's plant in Ruishan was built in 2010, when SK On had not yet been spun off from SK innovation, and the initial annual capacity was 200MWh, which was put into operation in September 2012. After the completion of the SK On Ruishan plant, three expansions were carried out in 2014, 2015 and 2016, the most recent of which was completed in September 2018, increasing the plant's annual capacity to 5GWh.

If SK On's plan to expand the Ruishan plant is approved, the annual production capacity of 15GWh after the expansion is completed will be able to meet the demand for 250000 electric vehicles.
