CTOnews.com, December 5 (Xinhua)-- BYD Japan said on Monday that it would start selling the first pure electric vehicles in the country early next year.

BYD said it will launch the electric SUV ATTO 3 in Japan from January 31, 2023. The model has a range of 485km and costs 4.4 million yen (230500 yuan).

BYD said its Japanese subsidiary plans to launch two more models by the end of 2023 and has more than 100 dealerships in Japan by the end of 2025.

CTOnews.com has reported that BYD will enter the Japanese passenger car market in January next year and will start selling BYD's seals, dolphins and ATTO 3 electric cars from January 2023.

In order to better sell passenger cars in Japan and provide related services, BYD established BYD Automotive Japan Co., Ltd. on July 4.

CTOnews.com learned that BYD had previously been a great success in the Japanese electric bus market. Jinzui Hanada, executive vice president of BYD Japan, said on July 13 that the company is expected to sell 4000 electric buses in Japan by 2028 as the Japanese government promises to be carbon neutral by 2050 and local awareness of electric cars has increased.

It is worth mentioning that BYD currently has about 70% of the Japanese electric bus market, and expects the group to maintain a 30% to 40% market share by 2030, even with other competitors.
