CTOnews.com, December 5, according to data released by SNE Research, a South Korean market research institute, in October 2022, the global installed capacity of electric vehicle batteries reached 48 GWh, an increase of 73.6% over the same period last year, and maintained steady growth for 28 consecutive months.

In terms of manufacturer ranking, two Chinese manufacturers, Ningde Times and BYD, led the entire power battery industry, with installed capacity reaching 18.1GWh and 7.8GWh respectively, accounting for 37.6% and 16.2% of the market share respectively, a significant increase over the same period in 2021.

In particular, it is worth mentioning that BYD once again surpassed LG New Energy and won the runner-up by virtue of its 2.4 GWh installed capacity. BYD's market share has increased to 16.2% from 11.6% in the same period last year, making it the world's second-largest supplier of electric vehicle batteries. By contrast, the installed capacity of LG new energy increased by only 30.2%, and its market share lost nearly 4 percentage points.

The other eight power battery companies in the top 10 are LG New Energy, Panasonic, SK On, Samsung SDI, China New Airlines, Guoxuan Hi-Tech, Xinwanda and Yiwei Lithium Energy. Overall, the top 10 companies in the market account for nearly 90% of the market.

Overall, China's lead over South Korean battery manufacturers has once again widened. Among them, six Chinese battery manufacturers have a market share of about 64%, while three South Korean battery companies have a market share of about 21.6%.

CTOnews.com learned that from January to October 2022, the global installed capacity of electric vehicle batteries was 390.4 GWh, an increase of 75.4% over the same period last year, continuing the growth trend since the third quarter of 2020. Among them, the installed capacity of Ningde era increased by 98.6% to 137.7 GWh compared with the same period last year, and the market share was almost the same as that in January-September (35.1%), reaching 35.3%. From the current data, the annual installed capacity of Ningde era is expected to exceed 160 GWh, and with a huge advantage to achieve "six consecutive championships".
