It is understood that China has completed the experiment of cultivating rice in the whole life cycle in space, which is the first time in the world. In the cold package of three biological samples returned, the experimental samples of rice and Arabidopsis thaliana were loaded. Rice and Arabidopsis thaliana seeds have experienced 120 days of spatial cultivation and growth, and completed the whole process of development from seed to seed, which is the first time to obtain rice seeds in orbit in the world. At present, some of the returned rice and Arabidopsis thaliana samples have been fixed, and rice seeds will continue to be cultured by scientists.

CTOnews.com learned that during the Shenzhisheng group's orbit, from the injection of nutrient solution on July 29 to the end of the experiment on November 25, rice and Arabidopsis seeds experienced 120 days of space cultivation and growth inside the Chinese space station, and completed the whole process of seed germination, seedling growth, flowering and seed setting. This is the first time in the world to complete the whole life cycle culture experiment of rice. During this period, the astronauts collected three samples in orbit, including rice samples at booting stage, Arabidopsis thaliana flowering samples and rice and Arabidopsis seed maturity samples. After collection, the flowering or booting samples are stored in a low temperature storage cabinet of minus 80 degrees Celsius, and the seed maturity samples are stored in a low temperature storage cabinet of 4 degrees Celsius.

In the follow-up, scientists will analyze the returned samples by molecular biology, cytology and metabolism, and analyze the law and molecular basis of the effect of space microgravity on Arabidopsis thaliana and rice through detection and analysis. To provide a theoretical basis for the further creation of crops adapted to the space environment and the development and utilization of space microgravity environmental resources.

At the same time, 4 boxes of experimental samples of containerless materials were returned. The containerless material experimental cabinet is the first similar experimental facility in China and the second in the world. So far, it has operated stably in orbit for more than 590 days, successfully completed 7 boxes of material samples in orbit experiments, and successfully heated 73 samples.

The three astronauts returned to the ground safely to bring a successful conclusion to the Shenzhou 14 mission. While in orbit, they cooperated with the ground to complete the assembly and construction of the basic configuration of the Chinese space station "T" and completed the on-orbit transition with the Shenzhou 15 astronauts for the first time, witnessing many historic moments such as the fastest world record for rendezvous and docking between the cargo spacecraft and the space station. In the follow-up, they will have a half-year recovery training, and after observation and evaluation, they will be transferred to normal training.
