CTOnews.com, December 5 (Xinhua)-- Switzerland may become the first country in the world to restrict the use of electric vehicles to ensure energy security. According to the discussion plan that has not yet been adopted, Switzerland is likely to ban the use of electric vehicles other than "absolutely essential travel".

The Swiss government of Tu Yuan Unsplash has drafted an urgent proposal that, in order to ensure energy security, the temperature of the building may not exceed 20 degrees Celsius, the business hours of shops will be reduced, and streaming services will be restricted. The most stringent measures include banning sports competitions, concerts and theatre performances, aimed at avoiding power outages.

Switzerland is preparing for an energy crisis this winter as it relies on imported electricity to support the country through the cold months. Hydropower accounts for about 60 per cent of Switzerland's energy supply, while nuclear power, which the government is trying to phase out, accounts for 1/3, while fossil fuel plants and solar or wind power account for the rest.

However, the amount of electricity that Switzerland can produce varies greatly from month to month. In Rain Water's more months, rainfall and snow caused the supply of hydropower to exceed demand, and Switzerland exported most of the electricity it could produce. Electricity is imported in colder months, when hydroelectric power production is lower. As a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Switzerland is vulnerable to energy shortages in Europe. Most of Switzerland's electricity supply comes from France and Germany, but the power supply has been restricted this year due to the energy crisis.

Switzerland's emergency response to the energy crisis has two levels-emergency and crisis. The first level has three restrictions and the second level has two restrictions. Each phase will be triggered according to the level of power supply available.

The emergency minimum level requires public buildings to be heated to no more than 20 degrees Celsius, and at the next level, the temperature will be reduced to 19 degrees Celsius, and streaming services are required to reduce video resolution from high-definition quality to standard. If the situation worsens, shops will be required to close two hours earlier, and electric cars can only hit the road if necessary.

Crisis measures may ban the provision of hot water in public bathrooms and the use of electric leaf blowers. After that, the escalator will be asked to stop using and the outdoor Christmas lighting will be turned off. If the power supply continues to decline, cryptocurrency mining will be banned, while swimming pools will be closed and lights in stadiums will be turned off. In the event of the most extreme power shortages, sports competitions, concerts and theatre performances will be cancelled and all leisure and entertainment venues will be closed.
