For those who use Windows 8.1, Microsoft even urges users to upgrade to new computers to enjoy all the benefits of Win11.

Now some foreign media have found that the company has launched a more aggressive Win11 recommendation strategy a few days ago. For example, the Windows 11 recommendation option appears in the Windows out-of-the-box experience (OOBE) interface of Windows 10 22H2, and you can upgrade Win11 in place after the first boot or major update.

Microsoft pointed out in the new OOBE update (KB5020683) document:

An out-of-band update was released on November 30, 2022 to improve Windows 10 version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2, and 22H2 (OOBE). It provides the option to upgrade to Windows 11 for eligible devices as part of the OOBE process. This update is available only if the OOBE update is installed.

CTOnews.com has learned that this update applies to the following versions of the operating system:

Windows 10, version 2004 (Home and Professional only)

Windows 10, version 20H2 (Home and Professional only).

Windows 10, version 21H1 (Home and Professional only)

Windows 10, version 21H2 (Home and Professional only).

Windows 10, version 22H2 (Home and Professional only)

In order to receive this OOBE update, some Windows 10 versions need to meet some prerequisites:

Windows OOBE

If an Internet connection is available, this update is installed during the Windows OOBE process.

For Windows 10, version 2004

Recommendation: November 10, 2020-KB4586781 (OS build 19041.630)

Optional: October 29, 2020-KB4580364 (OS build 19041.610)

For Windows 10, version 20H2

No other updates are required.

For Windows 10, version 21H1

No other updates are required.

For Windows 10, version 21H2

No other updates are required.

For Windows 10, version 22H2

No other updates are required.
