This is the second time he has retired at Amazon, and Blackburn has held various executive roles at Amazon over the past 20 years, including head of media content.

Before this retirement, Blackburn's official position at Amazon was Senior Vice President of Global Media and Entertainment. Amazon has announced that although Blackburn plans to leave the company, he will continue to work until early next year to ensure a smooth transition.

Blackburn, a veteran of Amazon, joined Amazon in 1998 and has since been in charge of different business groups within the company. these include online advertising, Amazon Studios, which is responsible for film and television content creation, Amazon's online video service, and online music services.

In addition, Blackburn worked in Deutsche Bank's investment banking division before joining Amazon and provided a lot of help in Amazon's initial public offering.

On Blackburn's departure, Amazon CEO Andy Jassie said that without Blackburn, Amazon would no longer be the same Amazon, both in the past and in the future. he thanked Blackburn for his contribution to Amazon's successful development or to be made.

This is Blackburn's second retirement from Amazon. In February 2021, Blackburn announced that he would retire from Amazon, after actually taking a vacation the year before.

However, in May 2021, Blackburn returned to Amazon as head of the newly formed Global Media and Entertainment Division (Senior Vice President). This division leads Amazon's online video, streaming music, audio content, online games and other businesses.

With Blackburn's new retirement plan, Amazon announced that it would make related executive personnel changes. Two entertainment executives will report directly to chief executive Jassie: Mike Hopkins, who is in charge of online video, film and television originals and MGM (the established Hollywood studio acquired by Amazon), and Steve Boom, who is in charge of the music streaming and audio content creation team.

In addition, Boom will have additional responsibilities and will be in charge of Amazon's audio books and online games business and its video game live streaming platform Twitch.

Blackburn said in a statement that he was very excited about his work at Amazon over the past year and a half and that together with his colleagues in the Global Media and Entertainment Division, he has launched some very important and bold projects in areas such as entertainment and sports.

Blackburn said he now decided to live a very different life in 2023, leaving more time for his family. "I feel strongly that being with my family is the right decision for me now."
