CTOnews.com news on December 4, the latest "Global Semiconductor equipment Market report" released by the International Semiconductor equipment and Materials Association (SEMI) shows that global semiconductor equipment shipments reached $28.75 billion (about 202.113 billion yuan) in the third quarter of 2022, a month-on-month increase of 9% and a year-on-year increase of 7%.

CTOnews.com learned that SEMI said that the growth in semiconductor equipment sales in the third quarter was in line with the positive forecast for 2022. Equipment spending rose 9 per cent in the third quarter from the previous quarter, reflecting the semiconductor industry's determination to strengthen fab capacity to support long-term growth and technological innovation.

In addition, global silicon wafer shipments reached a new record of 3.741 billion square inches in the third quarter of 2022, up 1.0 per cent from a month earlier and 2.5 per cent year-on-year, according to SEMI.

In the semiconductor industry's annual silicon shipment forecast, SEMI pointed out that global silicon wafer shipments are expected to grow 4.8% year-on-year in 2022, reaching an all-time high of nearly 14700 million square inches (MSI).
