CTOnews.com December 4 news, Ericsson's latest "Mobile Market report" shows that 5G growth is still faster than any previous generation of mobile communications. It is estimated that the number of 5G mobile contracts will reach 5 billion by the end of 2028.

Ericsson predicts that global fixed wireless access (FWA) connections will grow faster than previously expected. FWA is expected to grow at an annual rate of 19% between 2022 and 2028, and the number of connections will reach 300 million by the end of 2028.

Data show that from July to September 2022, the number of global 5G contracts increased by about 110 million, bringing the total number of contracts to about 870 million. Ericsson's previous report predicted that the number of 5G contracts is still expected to reach 1 billion by the end of this year, and 5G is expected to reach 1 billion contracts two years earlier than 4G.

CTOnews.com learned that Ericsson said that the statistics prove that 5G is still the fastest-expanding generation of mobile technology, mainly because a number of manufacturers launched 5G models in time and their prices are falling faster than 4G phones, and China has deployed 5G on a large scale in advance.

In addition, 5G continues to maintain strong growth in North America and Northeast Asia. It is expected that the 5G contract penetration rate in these areas will reach about 35% by the end of 2022. So far, nearly 230 operators around the world have launched 5G services, and more than 700 5G smartphone models have been released or commercially available.

By the end of 2028, the report expects the number of global 5G contracts to reach 5 billion, accounting for 55 per cent of the total number of contracts signed. Similarly, by the end of 2028, 5G population coverage will reach 85%. The 5G network will carry about 70% of mobile traffic, making it a major contributor to all traffic growth in the same period.
