CTOnews.com, December 4, according to ETNews, Samsung Electronics introduced Dongjin Macon Semiconductor photoresist into its mass production line for the first time, which is also Samsung's first attempt to mass-produce photoresist locally. However, given Samsung's relationship with overseas photoresist suppliers, the exact production is not clear, and whether Samsung will introduce other varieties of photoresist has not been answered.

It is reported that Samsung Electronics has introduced PR developed by South Korean companies for high-tech processes into its large-scale production line. In July 2019, Japan announced restrictions on the export to South Korea of three important semiconductors and OLED panel raw materials, including fluorinated polyimide, photoresist and high-purity hydrogen fluoride.

Samsung Electronics was found to have used Dongjin Dongjin Semichem photoresist on one of its semiconductor process lines, which passed Samsung's reliability test last year and was used in large-scale production lines in less than a year. A process line is only a very small part of the whole process of Samsung Electronics, but because it is a product that previously relied entirely on imports, it is of special significance. In the past, South Korea relied 100% on imports of photoresist from Japan and other countries.

As Samsung uses this product in actual semiconductor production, Dongjin Miken became the first company to localize the photoresist and reach the level of mass production. Yongchang Chemical and SK material properties are also developing photoresist, but they have not yet reached the level of reliability verification.

Photoresist refers to the etching film material whose solubility changes after ultraviolet light, deep ultraviolet light, electron beam, ion beam, X-ray and so on. It is the key material in the lithography process. It is mainly used in the fine pattern processing of integrated circuits and discrete devices.

CTOnews.com learned that from the overall format, the global photoresist market is highly concentrated, Japan and the United States control most of the market share. Japan's JSR, Tokyo Yinghua, Shinyue Chemical and Fuji Film occupy more than 70 per cent of the global market share and have a solid monopoly position.
