CTOnews.com, December 4, according to Xinhua News Agency, Pan Jianwei, Zhao Bo and others of the University of Science and Technology of China used coherent synthesis method to prepare an ultra-cold triatomic molecular ensemble with high phase space density for the first time in the world, which is an important step towards the study of ultra-cold quantum chemistry and quantum simulation based on ultra-cold molecules.

CTOnews.com learned that its related research results were published in the international authoritative academic journal Science on December 2, DOI:10.1126/science.ade6307. Reviewers of the journal Science believe that this study is a milestone in the field of ultra-cold molecules and opens up a new direction for the study of ultra-cold chemistry and quantum simulation.

According to reports, the research team successfully used magnetic association technology to prepare ultra-cold triatomic molecular ensemble with high phase space density for the first time. They use radio frequency dissociation technique to dissociate triatomic molecules into free sodium and potassium molecules and atoms, and obtain dissociation spectra, thus realizing the direct detection of triatomic molecules.

The experimental results show that the phase space density of the triatomic molecular gas obtained by them is about 10 orders of magnitude higher than the previous best record, which represents an important milestone in ultra-cold chemistry and physics.

The preparation of the supercooled triatomic molecular ensemble paves the way for simulating the three-body problem in quantum mechanics, and the high phase space density also makes it possible to prepare the Bose-Einstein condensation of triatomic molecules.
