CTOnews.com Honeywell is announcing a new partnership with Nexceris to try to improve the safety of electric vehicles. Nexceris has developed a gas detection solution for Tamer lithium-ion batteries that greatly enhances the safety of such batteries.

The two companies are said to be developing a new system that prevents electric vehicle batteries from "thermal runaway" and thus avoiding fires.

According to their announcement, the new system is equipped with some kind of sensor that can detect the gas generated when the lithium-ion battery is too hot. CTOnews.com understands that such detection systems allow for early detection and intervention to avoid user property damage and safety issues.

Pexels Honeywell said it was necessary to develop such a solution "to avoid overheating lithium-ion batteries and causing fires." Global electric vehicle sales doubled in 2021 compared to 2020, and with many models introduced in the past few years using lithium-ion batteries, it became imperative to develop safer precautions.

They also point out that companies across the industry are trying to develop fire-resistant electric vehicle batteries and adopt various strategies to prevent extreme situations.

Since its founding in 2010, Nexceris has been conducting regular testing and analysis of battery systems, working with designers, regulators and experts in the field to improve battery safety.

Nexceris technology has been used by NASA to develop solid oxide batteries for lunar missions.
