Apple iOS 16.2 Beta 4 Notification Center no longer hides old notifications

CTOnews.com In the latest beta version of Apple iOS 16.2 Beta 4, there have been minor but significant changes to how Notification Center works, with older notifications now displayed by default rather than requiring an upward swipe.

CTOnews.com has learned that in the current and earlier versions of iOS 16, users won't automatically see old notifications they've received in the Notification Center as they did in iOS 15, but will have to manually swipe up from the middle to display them.

In other words, if a new notification is received and the user unlocks the iPhone without interacting with it, iOS treats it as an old notification and sends it to the Notification Center, where it is hidden, which some users say often causes important notifications to be missed.

Note that in iOS 16.2 Beta 4, the lock screen still hides old notifications unless the user swipes up from the middle of the screen. The change to show old notifications by default applies only to the notification center, which can be swiped down from the top of the screen when the iPhone is unlocked.

iOS 16.2 is expected to be released later this month, and it's unclear whether that change will occur. Apple is currently testing improvements to how iOS handles older notifications.
