CTOnews.com December 3, Google continues to persuade Apple to support the RCS messaging standard. Google today released another blog post called "it's time for RCS" (it's time to upgrade to RCS), which highlights the advantages of RCS and accuses Apple of still using its SMS service in the 1990s.

CTOnews.com learned that the full name of RCS is Rich Communication Services (Rich Communications solution), which is initiated by the GSM Association and aims to create a program to further enrich operator communication services based on IP Multimedia Subsystem, which aims to replace the current SMS messaging standard.

RCS supports higher resolution photos and videos, audio messages and larger file sizes, as well as improved encryption, cross-platform emoji response, and group chats across different devices. Over the past year or so, Google has been persuading mobile phone manufacturers and operators to support RCS, but Apple remains unimpressed.

At present, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and other major U. S. operators, Motorola, Nokia, OnePlus, Samsung, Sony and other major mobile phone manufacturers have followed the support of RCS. But Apple remained the only opponent and did not accept Google's RCS proposal.

Google's new blog post points out that this week marks the 30th anniversary of the birth of the SMS messaging standard (the first SMS message was sent on December 3, 1992). Google thought it was time for an update, calling Apple "a drag".
