The tone of this picture was conceived before I shot it. To create an atmosphere of twilight, there are two key points to explain:

First, change the original light and dark relationship

The original image was shot with side lighting, so the people and the parts behind the tree trunk are dark, and the nearby road surface and the left wall are illuminated by light. Then I hope it is a side-lighting effect, that is, light shines from the oblique front of the character, and the starting point of the light source is designed in the upper right corner of the picture, so that the face of the character and the trunk behind it can be illuminated, which helps the main expression. II. Shaping the Twilight Atmosphere

Due to the shooting schedule is relatively fast, shooting time is limited, the original light and shadow are dull, the color temperature and angle of the light are not good, so I change the highlight and shadow tone to make the picture more dusk atmosphere. The schematic diagram is as follows:

First clear the idea of map revision:

1. Overall exposure adjustment

2. Skin color adjustment

3. Increase the light source

4. Adjust the overall tone

5. Rendering picture color

6. Optional color tool to adjust color purity

1. Exposure adjustment First open the picture in ACR. First adjust the exposure as a whole according to the parameters in the red box below. The principle is to darken the bright part and brighten the dark part. It mainly highlights people and trees, darkens roads and walls.

After overall adjustment, use gradient mirror and radial filter to adjust locally. As shown below:

Use gradient lens to select the light in the lower left corner and darken the exposure.

Use radial filters to highlight and circle the characters.

Then add the dark corner:

"Quantity" decreases to the left to increase the vignetting,"midpoint" is the natural degree of vignetting, adjust to the left to increase the transition effect.

Below is a comparison of this step before and after adjustment:

2, skin color adjustment large scene portrait Although the characters are relatively small, the face is not very prominent, but in order to improve, do a good job of every detail, or to carefully adjust the skin color.

In the whole retouching step, correct the skin color before toning, because the color of the picture will interfere with the skin color, so adjust the skin color normally first, in the adjustment steps after that, remember to wipe out the face with a brush appropriately at each step, do not necessarily erase the color effect 100%, because the face light and color will also be affected by ambient light, so make slight changes according to the ambient light color, so that the character blends into the scene.

To adjust the skin tone, I use the Curve Tool, which is a very easy and subtle method.

As shown above, select the "Drag" tool in the red box, place the cursor on the face of the character, and drag "up and down" to adjust it.

First, select the RGB mode of the curve, adjust the brightness of the face, drag the cursor up to highlight.

Then correct the skin color. There are three modes in the curve: red, green and blue. Select the corresponding mode according to the skin color cast. This adjustment principle is actually the color principle of the hue ring, using the characteristics of contrast color to adjust the skin color clean, yellow and blue, red and green and magenta contrast colors, increase the corresponding contrast color to reduce color cast.

The skin tone was red and yellow, so I adjusted the "red and blue," selecting "red," dragging the cursor down the face, lowering the red, selecting "blue," dragging the cursor up the face, increasing the blue, lowering the yellow.

After adjusting the skin color, remember to wipe off the part other than the skin color with the brush, and don't let the environment be affected by this step, as shown below:

3, increase the light effect The picture itself has no light source, so the source of light is not clear, then we now have to add a light source to the picture, using the brush tool and radial blur. The procedure is as follows:

Ctrl shift N creates a new layer.

Click OK directly, and then such a layer will appear in the Layers Panel (as shown below)

Then choose yellow in the color picker because the light is warmer at dusk. (as shown below)

Then select the Brush tool to smear at the appropriate location on the screen to make it a light source. Pay attention to changing the brush size and opacity at any time when painting, do not let the light effect be too stiff (as shown below)

This is a good smear, pay attention to the closer to the light source position, the deeper the degree of smear, that is, the greater the opacity of the brush, the farther away from the light source position, the degree of smear appropriately reduced.

Then comes the crucial step: radial blurring. This allows the light to have a natural divergence effect, the more blurred the light, the more natural it is, and generally repeat the blur 3 to 5 times. The procedure is as follows:

The window appears as shown above. Notice the red boxes marked in the above image: select "zoom" so that the light is scattered, and select "100" so that the degree of blurring is the most natural. Blur center point, be sure to choose the right direction, this picture light source from the upper left corner, then choose the upper left corner is the blur center point, let the light spread out from there.

After adding the light source, adjust the filling degree of this layer appropriately, or modify the light source with a brush to make it look more natural, as shown below:

4. Determine the overall tone setting I am used to using the color balance tool. There are three adjustment modes in the color balance tool: shadow, center tone and highlight. This allows you to adjust the tonal sharpness level of an image, especially for images with highlights and shadow differences.

My idea is to cool the shadows and warm the highlights.

5. The color of the rendered picture is increased by using 3D lut. 3D lut is preset in the last "Color Search" in the second row of the adjustment toolbar.

Sunlight color needs to be enhanced, I used two 3D lut presets here.

Use the preset shown above to increase the warm color of the light

Use the preset highlights shown above to enhance highlights.

Let's look at the contrast effect before and after adding 3D lut:

6, optional color tools to adjust color purity Optional color tools are the use of hue ring principle to adjust color purity.

Adjacent colors: adjacent colors on the hue circle. Such as blue and blue, red and yellow.

Contrast color: The color opposite to one another on the hue circle. Such as blue and yellow, red and blue.

Make a color purer: increase neighboring colors and decrease contrasting colors.

Reduce the purity of a color: reduce adjacent colors and increase contrast colors.

Optional color tool can be divided into hue adjustment, can also be adjusted by sharpness level. (as shown below)

Each adjustment item has four parameters: green, red, yellow and black. The first three are color adjustment items, black is brightness adjustment, adjusting black to the right is to reduce brightness, and adjusting black to the left is to increase brightness.

My specific adjustments are as follows:

Increase magenta and decrease yellow, making the picture purple and warm.

Adding cyan to the red alone reduces the red in the highlights and brings them closer to the yellow at dusk.

7. Nik plug-in adds texture In order not to make the picture look dry and stiff, we add some texture to the picture.

Nik collection plug-in has multiple filters: noise reduction, HDR, sharpening, black and white, etc.

We use Color Efex Pro4 in Nik collection. Note that the Nik filter should be turned on in the observation layer, press the shortcut key: ctrl shift alt E to create the observation layer.

Open the interface as shown below, select the adjustment item in the red circle. I only added a "sunlight" filter to this image. This filter has several adjustment parameters such as soft light, color temperature, contrast, brightness and saturation, which are suitable for this image.

After adding the preset, you can change the opacity of the layer or add the appropriate paint with the brush tool, reduce the light effect of the part of the character appropriately, and focus on retaining the highlight light effect of the upper right part of the picture.

8, strengthen the details after a step of soft light, although the picture light will be a lot softer, but also make the picture blurred, so the last step, to strengthen the picture details.

I am used to using high contrast preservation to enhance detail, removing blur while retaining texture.

First, stamp the new observation layer, shortcut key: ctrl shift alt E. Mode changed to Soft Light. (as shown below)

Select "High contrast preservation" in "Other" in "Filter"(as shown in the following figure)

Choose the appropriate degree, my principle is a little too much, so that there is room to adjust, and then you can appropriately reduce the degree of enhancement in the layer fill.
