Microsoft test data show that the replacement operation of Visual Studio 2022 version 17.3 is 25 seconds, while that of version 17.4 is 8 seconds.

In addition, C++ projects are now indexed faster. When populating the source code index in a large C++ project, users will notice a 25% per cent improvement in performance.

Similarly, the need for solution reloading during branch switching has been reduced by 80%. Compared with Visual Studio 2019, branch switching takes 16 seconds for version 17.3 and about 10 seconds for Visual Studio 2022.

CTOnews.com learned that in terms of unit testing, Test Explorer can show up the entire project test more quickly. In Microsoft testing, the performance was double that of the previous version when tested on 150 projects and 300000 test solutions. Similarly, the test component runs three times faster, and the test runner process connection is established faster.

Finally, most save operations have been transferred to background threads so that IDE remains responsive and is not affected by the save process. Microsoft says the improvement will be most pronounced on slow hard drives, large projects and network sharing.
