November 30 news, in May this year, Saudi Arabia Telecom (STC) and Huawei completed the commercial innovation of the global first hop if SuperLink link in Darman region. After more than 6 months of operation of the existing network, the link has excellent stable performance and meets the design requirements. The single-antenna and single-link bandwidth of the SuperLink scheme reaches 10Gbps, saving 67% of the sky and 70% of the hardware, and provides a minimalist, large-bandwidth solution for 5G suburban coverage.

As one of the forerunners of global 5G construction, Saudi Arabia has been building 5G network on a large scale since 2019. 60% of the 5G stations in the current network are carried by microwave, while the urban areas are mainly carried by long-distance E-band. For the suburbs and outer suburbs, they are too far away to use E-band to cover them. However, the use of traditional frequency band is limited by frequency resources, sky and tower load, and the single link capacity does not exceed 5Gbps, which can not meet the demand of 5G backhaul bandwidth, which greatly reduces the speed of STC deploying 5G in the suburbs.

In response to the above problems, Saudi STC and Huawei continue to innovate to develop SuperLink solutions that avoid parallel links, reduce the number of hardware by 70 per cent, reduce antenna transportation, switching costs and tower rentals by 67 per cent, and significantly save TTM and TCO. The bandwidth of conventional frequency band with single day and single pipe can reach 10Gbps, which can not only solve the problem of space load bearing of iron tower, but also greatly improve the speed of 5G deployment in the suburbs.

The SuperLink scheme consists of the industry's first multi-band antenna and a four-in-one carrier aggregation CA ODU:

Multi-band antennas can cover 6GHz, 7GHz, 8GHz or 13 GHz, 15 GHz, 18GHz three large frequency bands, which solves the problem that multiple antennas need to be installed to form parallel links when multiple frequency bands are combined to provide large bandwidth. In the process of bandwidth evolution, operators do not need to add an antenna to another frequency band, which relieves the pressure on the tower space and does not need to be re-switched, making it easier to deploy and upgrade.

Four-in-one carrier aggregation CA (Carrier Aggregation) ODU, which integrates four channels in one hardware, reduces the number of ODU by 75%, supports higher modulation mode and larger channel bandwidth, and increases single ODU capacity by 500%.
