Beijing, Nov. 30 (Xinhua)-- India's Tata Group Group is in talks with Wistron, a contract manufacturer of Apple's iPhone, to buy Wittron's only manufacturing plant in India for up to 50 billion rupees ($612.6 million), according to people familiar with the matter.

Tata may also consider a joint venture with Willon if it fails to reach an acquisition agreement, these people said. Wittronic is one of Apple's largest suppliers in India, with a factory in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

Currently, Tata Electronics, a division of the Tata Group, is already supplying parts to Apple. It was reported in September that Tata was in talks with Willon to set up a joint venture to assemble iPhone in India.

Tata Group, Wistron and Apple have yet to comment on today's report.
