Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, November 30 (Xinhua)-- the Hubble Space Telescope has successfully captured a picture of the globular cluster Pismis 26. The cluster is located in the constellation Scorpius, near the center of the Milky way and 23000 light-years from Earth.
Scientists are using the Hubble Space Telescope to observe and study the activity of globular clusters moving closer to the core of the Milky way. NGC 6638, NGC 6540, NGC 6558, Liller 1, Terzan 1, Terzan 2, Terzan 4 and Terzan 9 globular clusters have been successfully photographed.
CTOnews.com learned that the Pismis 26 globular cluster was first discovered by Armenian astronomer Paris Pismis at the Tonantzintla Observatory in Mexico in 1959. Pismis 26 is also named Tonantzintla 2.
The center of the Milky way is bulging, with dense clusters of stars around the core black hole. This bulge is filled with dust, which scatters blue light at shorter wavelengths, but allows longer wavelengths of red light to pass through. Because of this, the celestial bodies in the region look redder than they really are, distorting their surface color.
