CTOnews.com, November 30, the Apple SoC CPUFreq driver being developed by the Asahi Linux team will soon be incorporated into Linux's mainline (mainline) kernel. The driver can dynamically adjust the frequency of M1 and M2 series Apple Silicon chips in Linux distributions, which means that running Linux on Mac is a step forward.

CTOnews.com learned that Hector Martin, the chief developer of Asahi Linux, has been developing Apple SoC CPUFreq drivers for the past few months to adjust the CPU frequency on the Linux platform. Martin already supports adjusting the frequency of M2 SoC in the v2 version released in October, and this week is the fourth version update.

The v4 patch does not improve in terms of functionality, but reviews and optimizes the code according to the opinions of the community. And the development work of the driver is coming to an end, and it is in the state that the apple-soc-cpufreq driver can be merged into the main line, and the next Linux merge window is expected to merge. Developers still found some problems in the v4 version, and the v5 version should be released later.
