CTOnews.com, Nov. 29 (Xinhua)-- Sony has released a portable character motion capture device, the mocopi, which is a fairly simple motion capture system that allows users to combine virtual images with six sensors and connect to their mobile phones to create dynamic virtual images.

The mocopi consists of six sensors that record the movements of the head, left and right wrists, waist and left and right ankles, and then connect to the skeleton of a 3D virtual image through a mobile phone, capturing motion without any other equipment.

In addition, mocopi can not only quickly create virtual characters, but also output the character action information to external 3D animation software for secondary creation. Sony provides a set of mocopi Receiver Plugin, which can output the capture data to external software such as Unity, MotionBuilder, VMC virtual motion capture, VR Chat and so on in real time. Applications can also record voice and make the faces of virtual characters make corresponding expressions.

CTOnews.com learned that mocopi's mobile apps are currently mainly available for Sony's Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 series models and Apple iPhone models, and will gradually increase the number of supported models. Each mocopi sensor weighs about 8 grams and can be used for up to 10 hours on a single charge. it supports IPX5 / IPX8 waterproof and IP6X dustproof and can be used in rain. it is scheduled to go on sale in late January 2023 for 49500 yen (currently about 2579 yuan).
