CTOnews.com, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) according to the latest research report released by Counterpoint Research, global smartphone sales in October were 1.0568 billion units, down 11% from the same period in 2021.

In China, the world's largest smartphone market, sales of smartphones in October were 20.42 million, down 4 per cent from a month earlier and 15 per cent from a year earlier. Analysts point out that most Chinese users will not buy new phones before November 11.

In contrast, the United States was the only country where smartphone sales rose in October, up 14% from a year earlier to 14.45 million units. This phenomenon can be attributed to the year-end shopping season promotions launched by telecom companies.

CTOnews.com has learned that monthly smartphone sales in Europe have rebounded for the second month in a row, but have not been able to shake off the negative growth trend since 2021. According to reports, Europe sold 12.01 million smartphones in October, down 20 per cent from the same period in 2021.

Counterpoint pointed out that Apple was the only major smartphone maker to achieve month-on-month sales growth in October. In particular, it has achieved the highest market share of 25% in China, surpassing Samsung Electronics to become the No. 1 smartphone market in the world.

Apple is said to have sold 26.09 million iPhone 14 series two months after its launch, a figure similar to that of the iPhone 13 series, while the high-end Pro series accounted for 18.14 million, or 70 per cent.

Analysts pointed out that Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro ranked first and second in global sales in October, while flagship phones worth more than $800, led by the high-end iPhone 14 series, accounted for an all-time high.

While Samsung Electronics was overtaken by Apple, sales of OPPO and vivo fell for four consecutive months, falling to their lowest level since May 2020.
