The total installed capacity of Zhaoqing Langjiang pumped storage power station is 1.2 million kilowatts, and four 300000 kilowatt units will be installed, one of which is a variable speed unit independently developed in China. The project has a total investment of about 8.6 billion yuan and is scheduled to be put into production by the end of 2025.

The designed annual generating capacity of Zhaoqing Langjiang pumped storage power station is 1.35 billion kilowatt-hours, which can save about 360000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 900000 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 27000 tons and nitrogen oxides by 13500 tons per year. The scheduled start of the project will accelerate the landing of 164 wind power, photovoltaic and other green energy projects in the base.

CTOnews.com learned that at present, the total installed capacity of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area's six pumped storage power stations has reached 9.68 million kilowatts, and the development of Zhaoqing Langjiang pumped storage power station will promote the construction of the world's first 10 million kilowatt pumped storage bay area by the end of 2025. At the same time, the South Network Energy Storage Company has also carried out preliminary development work on a number of pumped storage power stations in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, Huizhou, Jiangmen and other places. It is estimated that by 2030, the total installed scale of pumped storage units in the Dawan area will be expanded to nearly 2000 kilowatts.

The pumped storage power station has two upper and lower reservoirs. When the power consumption is low at night, the water from the reservoir under the mountain is pumped up by electricity, and during the daytime peak, the water is discharged to generate electricity, which is equivalent to storing the electricity and realizing the transfer at any time to help power generation at the peak of the power grid. Promote wind power generation, photovoltaic power generation and other new energy effectively connected to the power grid, known as the "battery", "voltage regulator" and "regulator" of the power grid. At present, it is a green, low-carbon, clean and flexible power supply with the most mature technology, the best economy and the most large-scale development conditions.
