Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen xiaocluoyuzi for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, November 27 (Xinhua)-- on the morning of November 27, local time, the Chinese all-sea manned submersible "Endeavour" successfully completed the first leg of the first China-New Zealand joint abyss scientific research voyage, CCTV News reported.

On October 6, the mother ship "Discovery 1" set sail from Sanya's home port, completed supplies and personnel replenishment in Auckland on October 31, and went on a voyage to the Kmadek trench in the southwest Pacific Ocean. On November 25, the ship returned to Auckland, New Zealand, marking the successful completion of the first leg of the China-New Zealand joint abyss deep diving expedition.

CTOnews.com learned that the Kermadec Trench trench is one of the deepest trenches on earth, located east of the Kermadek Islands in the southern Pacific Ocean. Due to the sinking of the Pacific plate into the Indo-Australian plate, the trench is about 1200 km long and has a maximum depth of 10047 m, joining the Tonga Trench.

In the first segment, "Endeavour" dived 16 times, 14 of which were more than 6000 meters deep, and the station covered different structural units in the subduction zone of the Kmadek trench. This is also the first systematic manned deep diving scientific research conducted in the Kmadek trench area in the world.

The "Endeavor" all-sea deep-sea manned submersible is the core research and development task of "Deep-sea key Technologies and equipment" of the 13th five-year Plan. A number of major technological breakthroughs have been achieved in the preparation and welding of titanium alloy materials, acoustic communication and positioning. In November 2020, the Endeavour successfully sat at the bottom of the Mariana Trench with a depth of 10909 meters, setting a new record for manned deep diving in China.
