China Meteorological Administration (CMA) launched a level 3 emergency response today, and the Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a yellow alert for cold wave, CTOnews.com reported on November 27.

According to the China Meteorological Administration, temperatures in most parts of northern and central-eastern China are expected to drop by 10 ℃ to 16 ℃ from 27 to 30 days, with a drop of more than 18 ℃ in some areas, accompanied by northerly winds of 4 to 6, gusts of 7 to 9, and local levels of 10 or more. Sand and dust weather will occur in eastern and southern Xinjiang basins, western Gansu and central and western Inner Mongolia.

According to news released by the National Satellite Meteorological Center, Fengyun satellites are also monitoring cold air activities at the same time as the cold wave hits. At 06:00 in the morning on November 27 (Beijing time, the same below), the 24-hour temperature variation images of multi-height layers of FY-4A interferometric atmospheric vertical sounder (GIIRS) show that there are large negative temperature regions over Kazakhstan, West Siberian Plain and northern Xinjiang, which extends upward from 850hPa to several height layers, of which the temperature variation range of 850hPa is more than-15 ℃. The variable temperature profile near 90oE shows that the negative temperature below 400hPa is more than-10 ℃, and the cold air mass is very deep.
