CTOnews.com, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) South Korea opened its first self-driving bus route in the capital city of Seoul on Friday. It is a self-driving bus route with a total distance of about 3.4km, which is located in the Chunghe district of Seoul, South Korea. At this stage, passengers only need to make a reservation through the mobile phone App to get a free ride.

According to reports, self-driving buses running on this line can identify the surrounding environment such as traffic lights, pedestrians and obstacles, and perform functions such as obstacle avoidance, overtaking and emergency braking.

After booking free seats through App, citizens can wait to get on the bus at two designated stations. Two self-driving buses carry passengers back and forth between Qingxi Square and the nearby World Games Mall, covering a total distance of 3.4 kilometers and a travel time of 20 minutes.

This kind of bus looks a little different from an ordinary bus. with round edges and large windows, it looks more like a toy than a cutting-edge technology.

It is reported that 42 Dot, a self-driving startup owned by Hyundai, is responsible for the model. Jeong Seong-gyun, head of 42 Dot autopilot, said the design was intentional.

"this is the future," he told AFP, adding that buses need a "fairly new design".
