Beijing, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) South Korean and Chinese companies are accumulating meta-cosmic hardware patents as the electronics industry looks for development opportunities other than smartphones, according to research. Among them, LG Electronics and Huawei continue to climb the rankings.

IDC, a well-known American market research company for VR headsets, predicts that by 2026, the global metacosmos market will reach 74.7 billion US dollars, a quadrupling growth in five years. Professional hardware plays a key role in accessing virtual spaces, such as the 3D headset released by Facebook's parent company Meta last month.

According to the meta-universe patent ranking compiled by foreign media and Tokyo research company Cyber Creative Institute, LG has submitted the most patent applications for meta-universe since 2016, climbing from 11th to first place from 2010 to 2015. Samsung Electronics ranked second. Display color schemes and semiconductors are one of the strengths of South Korean companies, quickly gaining a place in core components, rather than headsets and other finished products.

Huawei did not rank in the top 20 in previous surveys, but now leaps to fourth place with a large number of patents related to image and display processing. TikTok parent company byte jump has also enhanced meta-universe development capabilities through acquisitions.

Meta ranked third, Microsoft ranked fifth, and Intel and Apple were among the top six American companies. Sony is the only Japanese company to make it into the top 10, ranking sixth.

Taken together, the top 20 companies submitted a total of 7760 yuan universe patents, of which the United States accounted for 57%, followed by South Korea's 19% and China's 12%. Japanese companies account for 8%.
