However, many users still find many unpleasant things in the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4, such as capacitive buttons everywhere, lack of backlit volume and air conditioning buttons, and some strange button positions.

CTOnews.com learned that Volkswagen's new CEO, Thomas Sch ä fer, admitted in an interview with Automotive Magazine that there was something wrong with the Mk8 Golf and most other models in the lineup, as well as the MIB3 infotainment system used in electric vehicles from various brands such as Cupra and Skoda, and promised to continue to update it over the next two years.

He explained that buyers and testers were so dissatisfied with it that the Volkswagen board stepped in and continued to participate in monthly meetings on the system. At present, the first task is to find out the brand logo, and then the specific model logo. After that, we need to create an ergonomic and functional logic for brands and models that use the system, and ask ourselves, "what are the top ten functions that customers always need?" And put these on the physical button at the first level, and then determine the secondary function and location. Once decided, he said, the top priority is to "keep it as it is. Don't change it!"

He says the "new 3.0 software" is coming soon and can do things, such as letting the sliders that control the volume of heaters and radios light up at night so that drivers can actually find them. The company is also working to make the system "faster and more versatile".

But these improvements will not be limited to software. Sch ä fer says Volkswagen's hardware, such as the touch capacitor buttons on the steering wheel, will be improved or completely replaced. However, this will take longer to implement, and the chief executive said the new hardware improvements would be introduced into vehicles in 2024, although a revised steering wheel would be introduced in Tuguan next year.
