Beijing, Nov. 27 (Xinhua)-- US shoppers spent a record $9.12 billion online on Black Friday this year, as consumers withstood the squeeze of high inflation and received big discounts on smartphones, toys and other goods, according to a report released Saturday by Adobe data and analysis department Adobe Analytics.

Us stores offer a 30 per cent discount Adobe Analytics, which measures e-commerce by analyzing website transactions, and the company obtains 85 per cent of shopping data from the top 100 internet retailers in the US. Online spending on Black Friday rose 2.3% in the United States, the report said, as consumers insisted on waiting for discounts on traditional shopping days, although discounts began as early as October. The company had expected a modest 1% increase in sales on Black Friday.

Consumers were expected to flock to stores over the past two years after the COVID-19 epidemic curbed in-store shopping, but on Black Friday morning, due to sporadic rain in parts of the United States, store traffic was lower than usual. Americans are turning to smartphones for holiday shopping. Mobile shopping accounts for 48 per cent of all digital sales on Black Friday, according to Adobe.

Adobe also predicts that online shopping Monday will once again become the biggest online shopping day in the holiday season, driving spending of $11.2 billion.
