Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, November 26 (Xinhua)-- SFC, a joint venture between Samsung Display and Japanese chemical company Hodogaya, has successfully invalidated a patent related to deuterium used in OLED in South Korea.

The patent is jointly owned by LG display (LG Display) and Material Science and was invalidated in a ruling of the intellectual property trial and Appeals Board in June.

SFC filed a request with the committee in January to cancel the patent, called 2277303, relating to airport-effect launchers.

The patent relates to deuterium (one of the two stable isotopes of hydrogen, also known as heavy hydrogen, chemical symbol D or ²H, deuterium is a colorless, odorless flammable gas with 0.015% abundance on Earth at room temperature) and is a material used to increase the life of OLED equipment.

CTOnews.com learned that LG Display said at the end of last year that it planned to apply deuterium technology to all of its large OLED panels starting this year. The company even has the brand "OLED.EX", which uses deuterium to increase the brightness of the OLED panel by 30 per cent.

However, a patent in the 2277303 family called 2136806, which is also related to deuterium, is still being registered. The patent is also owned by LG Display and Material Science and was registered as early as July 2020.

LG Display has applied for 2277303 patents cancelled in South Korea in the United States and China.
