CTOnews.com, Nov. 27 (Xinhua)-- Google said in its latest official blog post in March that it was developing a tool for Android that allows users to "archive" certain apps to help free up space on the device. Google explained that using the app archiving feature can free up to 60% of the storage space, but the feature does not uninstall the app or delete the user's personal data, but by deleting some of the app's functional components and archiving them, in order to achieve the goal of "slimming" the phone.

Google recently brought a v33.4 update to Google Play Store, officially providing the app archiving function. The archived application icon does not disappear on the desktop, but there is a sign of cloud download in the icon.

CTOnews.com learned that Google did this by creating a new APK format, officially called ArchivedAPKs. According to Google, it is much smaller than the traditional APK,ArchivedAPKs and will keep all the user's data until the user recovers it.
