13 years of independent research and development from 2009 to 2022

In 2009, independent research and development of 50 MW heavy gas turbines began.

In 2013, the overall structural design was completed.

In 2016, the first batch of domestic compressor, burner and turbine component-level test rigs were built.

In 2018, the compressor and burner were successfully developed, and the gas turbine test-bed with the highest power in China was built in the same year.

In 2019, precision casting and machining of turbine blades were completed, achieving 100% independent manufacture of all high-temperature components; a successful ignition test; and won the first batch of innovative development demonstration projects of the National Energy Administration.

In 2020, the F-class 50 MW heavy gas turbine was operated to 100% load for the first time, and was awarded the "Top Ten National weapons of the Central Enterprises in 2020".

In 2021, it was approved the first (set) major technical equipment project of the National Energy Administration.

In 2022, continuous operation at full load for 24 to 72 hours will be realized, indicating that this type of gas turbine is fully qualified for commercialization.

On November 25, 2022, Dongfang Electric Group officially shipped the F-class 50 MW heavy gas turbine with completely independent intellectual property rights, opening the "last kilometer" of the independent gas turbine from tackling key problems to application.

Dongfang Electric has the largest gas turbine test-bed in China, from "0" to "1", mastering these key core technologies in its own hands. Dongfang Electric has established a complete and reliable system for aerodynamic design, structural design and reliability evaluation of F-class gas turbines. The problems of burner manufacturing and precision casting of turbine blades for high temperature components of F-class gas turbine have been overcome. Built the first batch of domestic compressor, burner, turbine, rotor dynamic balance and other component-level test platform and the whole machine test platform. The test verification system is constructed, and all the verification tests of F-stage 50 MW gas turbine are completed.

According to reports, the gas turbine is an extremely complex clean energy power generation equipment, and the F-class 50 MW heavy gas turbine is composed of more than 20000 parts. Its working pressure is 18 atmospheric pressure, which is equivalent to the water pressure at the depth of 180m under the sea, and the working temperature is more than 1300 ℃. Under such high temperature and high pressure conditions, it also rotates at a high speed of 6000 revolutions per minute, and the linear speed is more than twice the flight speed of large airliners.

CTOnews.com learned that compared with thermal power units of the same power, F-class 50 MW heavy gas turbines can reduce carbon emissions by more than 500000 tons a year, and the combined cycle generates more than 70,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per hour, which can meet the electricity needs of 7000 households in a day, and will actively promote the realization of the "dual carbon" goal.

The F-class 50 MW heavy gas turbine development project, together with universities, scientific research institutes, and nearly 300 units in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the industrial chain, are working together to create a safe, controllable, independent and reliable gas turbine industry chain to achieve 100% localization of the main engine.
