Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Today's CPU market is facing a face-to-face confrontation between the 13th generation Coorui and the 7000 series Rui long. And most mainstream players' board U budgets are concentrated in the range of 3000-4000. In this range, i5-13600K competes with R7-7700X. So which of these two processors is more powerful? Who will be the first choice for installation in 2023? In this article, CTOnews.com will measure it.

First of all, let's introduce our test platform today. in order to avoid the bottleneck of GPU, we use the newly released RTX 4080 for graphics cards, which can fully show the gap of CPU.

It is worth mentioning that because the U budget of the board given by us is similar, and the 7700X chip itself is cheaper, it can be equipped with the more luxurious B650M motherboard. We choose the Asustek B650M-PLUS WIFI heavy gunner motherboard here. This motherboard can be called excellent workmanship in the B650M.

And i5-13600K because the boxed price is about 500 yuan or so, so the motherboard will be "beggar" under the same budget, we chose the Asustek entry-level B660M-K motherboard. If you really want to install the machine, in fact, the author does not recommend this entry model B660M, on the one hand, the entry model B660M generally does not support U-free update BIOS, and the old version of BIOS can not directly light up the 13th generation Core; on the other hand, the power supply of the entry model B660M is generally not fed with 181W of preset power consumption i5-13600K, with i5-13400 sky. Therefore, the author recommends that you match the Z790 / Z690 motherboard.

In addition, due to the mandatory binding of the 7000 series sharp dragon to DDR5, it is more expensive to buy memory. At present, the same capacity of memory DDR5 is about 100-200 yuan more expensive than DDR4. The 13th generation of Core can continue to use the old memory, so the upgrade cost is even lower. And in terms of read and write performance, the gap between DDR4 3600MHz and DDR5 4800MHz is not very big.

Core parameters the i5-13600K we tested is equipped with 14 cores and 20 threads, of which 6 high-performance P cores support hyperthreading and 8 high-performance E cores do not support hyperthreading. In CPU-Z, we can see more detailed parameters. I5-13600K has the super three buffers of 24MB and the L2 cache of 20MB. The maximum frequency range of P core is 3.5-5.1 GHz, while the high-performance E core has a frequency of 2.6-3.9GHz. Both cores support overclocking, but need Z-series motherboard support.

The R7-7700X on the AMD side adopts TSMC 5nm process and is replaced with a new AM5 package. The core size is still 8 cores and 16 threads, with 8MB level 2 cache and 32MB level 3 cache, basic frequency of 4.5 GHz and acceleration of up to 5.4 GHz, hot design power consumption (TDP) of 105W. It is worth mentioning that the 7000 series sharp dragon is standard based on the RDNA2 architecture, but there are only 2 computing units, which can only be used for basic office Internet access and debugging activation.

Before testing the theoretical performance, let's bake a machine first. considering that the calibration power consumption of the two CPU has increased this time, the radiator we use this time is extremely cold 360water cooling, so there is no need to worry about heat dissipation. The only thing we need to worry about is the heat accumulation of CPU.

After 15 minutes of baking FPU, i5-13600K stabilized at 125W, while the temperature was only 66 ℃. In fact, this is far from the true strength of 13600K. In our previous test, the i5-13600K can easily run more than 200W, can only say that the Asustek B660M-K does not match 13600K. If you have a purchase demand, you still can't save money on the motherboard.

The power consumption of R7-7700X is about the same, and it is also stable at about 125W-130W, but the temperature is quite high, reaching 95.3 ℃, and the processor also has frequency reduction. The author believes that this is mainly due to the new top cover design of the 7000 series sharp dragon, resulting in more serious heat accumulation, so the author thinks that 7700X can save money on the motherboard, because the power supply level of about 125W can move.

Then run the theoretical score, CTOnews.com tested CPU-Z, R20, R23 and 3DMark, we can see that in almost all projects, i5-13600K shows a performance of more than 7700X, whether single-core, multi-core or nuclear display has advantages.

Taking R7-7700X as the 100% benchmark for tabulation, we can see that single-core i5-13600K can lead by about 10%, while multi-core can lead R7-7700X by about 20%. Don't forget that i5-13600K has only 125W of performance. in fact, if you run to 200W, the performance advantage may expand to 30%.

Game comparison, so what happens in the actual game experience? Generally speaking, 3A works will eat more graphics cards, so in the next game test, in order to put more pressure on CPU, we manually reduce the image quality to 1080p high picture quality, in order to avoid the impact of GPU bottleneck on CPU comparison.

The first is "CS:GO". With its own BenchMark, both computers can run to a very high number of frames. However, because i5-13600K leads from single-core to multi-core to cache speed, the number of frames has a significant advantage.

I5-13600K+RTX 4080 averages 704 frames:

R7-7700X+RTX 4080 average 584 frames:

If it is to play a higher configuration requirements of the 3A masterpiece, what will be the performance? In Tomb Raider: shadow, i5-13600K is three frames higher. It seems that the pressure is mainly on GPU.

I5-13600K+RTX 4080 averages 212 frames:

R7-7700X+RTX 4080 averages 209 frames:

The following project gap can be much larger, such as light pursuit of the masterpiece "Control", the number of frames is different by more than 50 frames.

I5-13600K+RTX 4080 average 184frames:

R7-7700X+RTX 4080 averages 131frames:

In the Wild Dart: redemption, we run our own BenchMark, and there is a big gap in the number of measured frames, reaching 30 frames.

I5-13600K+RTX 4080 averages 177frames:

R7-7700X+RTX 4080 average 146frames:

Finally, let's test the most stressful "Cyberpunk 2077", in which the advantage of i5-13600K has been further expanded to more than 40 frames.

I5-13600K+RTX 4080 average 197frames:

R7-7700X+RTX 4080 average 153frames:

We will summarize the test results as follows. It can be seen that i5-13600K has obvious advantages over R7-7700X in game performance.

Productivity comparison apart from games, productivity is also one of the main uses of desktops. So we tested some productivity running software for you. First of all, the PCMark10,i5-13600K, which represents the comprehensive office performance, scored 8776 points, which is quite excellent and can fully meet the needs of high-intensity offices.

R7-7700X is a little worse on this side, with a score of 8515, which can also meet most of the needs.

Video clips are also a rigid demand for many people, so we also tested PugetBench For PR, which represents the creative production of Adobe, and the video color blending software Davinci. I5-13600K scored 923K in PR.

R7-7700X has a slight advantage in PR, with a score of 993. It may be that the all-core design is more PR-friendly.

But in another video software Davinci test, i5-13600K showed some advantages, with a score of 2170.

The R7-7700X lags far behind, about 1840 points.

In PugetBench For PS, it is R7-7700X that gains some advantages. The measured score of i5-13600K is 1062, which is enough for editing large pictures.

The R7-7700X is 1292 points, a lot ahead of the i5-13600K.

Finally, we also tested the performance of the two processors in the 3D rendering program V-Ray, and the measured CPU rendering score of i5-13600K reached 16168 points.

The theoretical score for CPU rendering of R7-7700X is 15088, which is still worse than that of i5-13600K.

In the creative production and integrated office software we tested above, we can see that R7-7700X has some advantages in Adobe software, probably because Adobe software is not yet fully compatible with intel's hybrid architecture. The i5-13600K has shown obvious advantages in the adapted software.

To sum up, from our above tests, I believe you can already see who is the best mid-range CPU to buy this year. The R7-7700X does achieve the performance that this price should have, but the performance of the i5-13600K is completely over-the-top. Only more than 2000 price, can achieve i9-12900K close to the performance, the performance-to-price ratio is really high, so the author is now using the computer is i5-13600KF, feel very good.

What is more important is the performance-to-price ratio. At present, the board U prices of i5-13600K and R7-7700X are basically the same, but i5-13600K can also use more cost-effective DDR4 memory, and the comprehensive upgrade cost may be lower for the 13th generation Core. Therefore, whether it is a game or work, I have no brain to recommend i5-13600K at the price of three or four thousand. If the motherboard is recommended, it is recommended to match a Z690 D4 motherboard with "no U brush BIOS" function, which has the highest performance-to-price ratio.
