This article introduces how to use dual monitors on the VMware virtual machine in Windows 10. The content is very detailed. Interested friends can use it for reference. I hope it will be helpful to you.

VMware does not allow you to use more monitors for any client operating system. However, you can bypass this default setting and use dual monitors with the VMware virtual machine. No matter which operating system you install in the virtual machine, if you have multiple monitors, you can use them. By default, VMware detects only one monitor-it will not recognize the second or third monitor. However, sometimes we need to use multiple monitors to accomplish specific tasks. If your virtual machine requires a second monitor, follow these steps. Note that this tutorial applies to VMware Workstation.

Using dual monitors with a VMware virtual machine

Ensure that the virtual machine is turned off before doing anything. Then follow these steps.

Open the VMware application and go to the edit > * item. Then, switch to the display section. Here, you will find two options, Autofit window and Autofit guest. You need to check two check boxes.

For your information, the second option helps the virtual machine display at the same resolution as the application (VMware) window. In other words, if you resize the VMware application window, the display resolution of the virtual machine will change accordingly.

After that, select the Autofit guest option, which is visible under the full screen tab. This option is also required to change the virtual machine resolution. Note that if you select this option, you need to install VMware Tools.

Next, click the OK button to save your changes.

Now, click the Edit Virtual Machine Settings option. Alternatively, you can right-click the virtual machine name and select Settings. After that, go to the display section.

By default, it should be set to the host setting that uses the monitor. You need to select the specify Monitor option. Next, you must select the number of monitors you have or want. For example, if you have two monitors, you can choose 2. Therefore, you need to enter the resolution of the monitor.

It should be the resolution of a single monitor. After all this is done, save the changes.

After that, open the virtual machine > View > cycle through multiple monitors.

You can now find your virtual machine on all monitors you previously owned or selected.

When this is done, you can open the windows10 Settings panel > system > display and manage your monitor, just like a normal windows10 installation.

Cannot use multiple monitor errors in VMware Workstation

After clicking the Cycle Multiple Monitors button, you may receive an error message indicating-

This virtual machine cannot use multiple monitors for the following reasons:

The virtual machine must install and run * * VMware Tools.

Please check the user's manual for help in resolving these problems.

If you have such error messages, you need to install VMware Tools, a utility package that can be installed for the Windows client operating system.
